The slope handicapping system, which came into effect into effect in September 2000, is administered by the NZGA. Previously the handicapper at each individual club had administered the handicapping of players. Effectively what happens is that each time you hand in a properly completed score card our committee members enter it into our computer and this data is passed onto the NZGA slope handicapping system which calculates your handicap. Each fortnight every New Zealand golfer’s handicap is updated and this is posted on the Club notice board on the Friday evening. Your handicap is calculated off the ten best of your last 20 cards handed in. What you have is called a handicap index, if you are playing the white course at Russley and your handicap is 11.8 for example your course handicap is 12, if however you are playing the white course at Shirley your course handicap might be 13. The reason for this is that "slope rating" at Shirley is greater than Russley. Every time you play check your handicap index and then from the notice board by our first tee see what handicap your index translates to for the course you are playing. It sounds complicated, it is not, once you have familiarized yourself with it, it is straightforward and sensible. If you are a new player trying to earn your handicap, then you are required to hand in 5 cards to obtain a handicap. You are able to look up the NZGA handicapping system on the Internet at home on www.golf.co.nz and not only see the details of your scores and your handicap but also the details of all other New Zealand golfers. A current handicap is essential if you wish to play in competitions so that the competition is fair for all players. If you need a certified handicap certificate for any reason please inquire at the office and we will print one off for you. |
