Golf Competitions

During the golfing year there are a number of golf competitions run by the men and women on their normal golf days, there are a considerable number of trophies played for and of course there are the Club Championships played for over the various grades. In addition in the summer there is a Twilight competition held on Wednesday evenings and a Business House competition held for invited business teams on Tuesday evenings. Over the course of the year there are a number of mixed competitions normally scheduled for Sunday afternoons. Details of all of these are found in the Club Programme.

On standard golfing days for men and ladies the competition of the day is posted on the notice board by the No 1 tee and results are generally announced in the Clubhouse at the conclusion of play and are also put on the relevant notice boards.

The prizes for these competitions are credits to players accounts. These credits are able to be used in the cafĂ© and bar or in the Pro Shop. The trophy events are set down in your Programme and those who wish to participate are required to formally enter in the format requested by the Men’s or Ladies Golf Committee.

Unfortunately the severity of Canterbury winters usually means that there will be frost delays at some stage during the winter. The policy is that if there is a frost commencement of play is delayed until at least 10am. The delay until the frost clears helps to protect the course and speeds its recovery in the spring. The impact on play during the week is not significant, normally a half hour delay, however it should be noted that the impact on the tee times on Saturday is far more significant. During the winter we run two start sheets for Saturday play. The normal three tee start sheet and a provisional one tee start sheet from 10am onwards in case of frost. Players must be aware of this as it does restrict the number of tee times available. Please refer to the notices on the notice board which sets out the frost play policy.
